Dear collegues, 

On behalf of the organizing committee we would like to invite you to join the 9^th International Meeting "Tumor immunology meets oncology (TIMO IX)", which will be held in Halle/Saale, Germany, from May 2^nd to 4^th, 2013.

During the last years tumor immunology has rekindled interest, since the molucular and celluar processes involved in immune escape and immune suppression of tumors known to negatively interfere with antitumor immune response have been better characterized. This allowed the development of novel immunotherapeutic approaches by enhancing the stimulatory activity of immune and/or tumor cells or by repressing the negative signals inhibiting immune respones. Some of these novel immunotherapeutics showed a high efficacy and are currently employed in clinical studies. In addition targeted therapies meinly affecting growth factor receptors and signal transduction pathways demonstrated an increased survival of tumor patiens, but often resistances develop. Some of these drugs are able to modulate immune responses by e.g. decreasing the frequency of immune suppressive cells. Therefor, combinatorial therapies might be the future of the treatmt of patiens. Bases on this novel knowledge the meeting will focus on immune escape strategies of tumor, the role of demdritics cells and NK cells as well as immune suppressive cells modulating the immune respone, the identification of biomarkers and novel therapeutic strategies.
