Kardiovaskuläre Risikofaktoren und Krankheiten in der älteren Allgemeinbevölkerung – Die CARLA-Studie

Im Rahmen der CARLA-Studie wurde zwischen 2002 und 2006 eine Stichprobe von 1.779 Männern und Frauen im Alter von 45 bis 83 Jahren untersucht. Die Response dieser Basisuntersuchung betrug 64 %. Das Untersuchungsprogramm umfasste ein standardisiertes, computergestütztes Interview, eine medizinische Untersuchung durch eine Study Nurse, die Ableitung eines 20 Minuten Ruhe-EKGs, die Abnahme von Blutproben und ein Echokardiogramm, durchgeführt durch einen Studienarzt. Um die Möglichkeit gemeinsamer gepoolter Auswertungen mit zeitlich parallel laufenden Kohortenstudien zu schaffen, wurde viel Wert auf die Wahl vergleichbarer Instrumente zu den anderen größeren nationalen und internationalen Kohortenstudien gelegt. 

Zwischen 2007 und 2010 fand die erste Follow-up-Untersuchung der etablierten Kohorte statt. Insgesamt wurden hier 1436 Probanden untersucht. Im Jahr 2013 wurde eine zweite Follow-up-Erhebung durchgeführt. Seit Oktober 2020 läuft die dritte Folgeuntersuchung der CARLA-Kohorte. Im Fokus steht jetzt insbesondere die Untersuchung von Faktoren, die mit einem gesunden Altern in Beziehung stehen. Hierfür werden bei den TeilnehmerInnen neben der Herz-Kreislauf-Gesundheit auch Faktoren der geistigen und körperlichen Funktionsfähigkeit im Alter untersucht.

Die Daten der CARLA-Studie eignen sich insbesondere auch zu gepoolten Auswertungen auf Individualniveau mit anderen deutschen Kohortenstudien für eine Reihe von relevanten epidemiologischen Gesundheitsfragestellungen sowie als Replikationskohorten für molekularbiologische Fragestellungen in nationalen und internationalen Konsortien. Die CARLA-Studie ist diesbezüglich schon heute beteiligt an nationalen Konsortien der Kompetenznetzwerke Diabetes und Adipositas sowie an verschiedenen internationalen Konsortien zur Durchführung genomweiter Assoziationsstudien (u. a. CHARGE, VgHRV).
