Das KKH fungiert als Schnittstelle zwischen der Forschung und Krebsbehandlung. Die Strukturen des KKH werden durch die onkologische Ausrichtung der Forschungsaktivitäten der Medizinischen Fakultät untermauert.

Das Leitmotiv des KKH basiert auf der Translation der Evidenz „from bedside to the population“.

Innovative Programme und Konzepte in der molekular fokussierten Grundlagenforschung,  patientenorientierten Forschung und Versorgungsforschung werden gemeinsam entwickelt und durchgeführt.

An der Schnittstelle zur Molekularen Medizin werden international sichtbar translationale Projekte in Kooperation der Kliniken mit grundlagenwissenschaftlichen Instituten durchgeführt. Eine ausgeprägte patientenorientierte Studienaktivität besteht sowohl im Bereich der Hämatologie als auch in der Onkologie der soliden Tumore. Ferner zielt der Forschungsschwerpunkt des Institutes für  Gesundheits- und Pflegewissenschaft in enger Zusammenarbeit mit den onkologischen Kliniken des KKH und der Stabsstelle Pflegeforschung des UKH auf die Optimierung der Pflege, Behandlung und Versorgung onkologischer Patienten aller Altersgruppen. 

Die Unterstützung und aktive Beteiligung des KKH an Nachwuchsförderungsprogrammen der Medizinischen Fakultät der MLU auf dem Gebiet der Krebsforschung  rundet das Profil des KKH ab.

Durch die diversen kollaborativen Forschungsprojekte sowie Nachwuchsförderprogramme, an denen die Mitglieder des KKH aktiv arbeiten und/oder mitwirken, wird unseren Patienten frühzeitig der Zugang zu den neuesten Entwicklungen in der Onkologie ermöglicht.

Diese Vernetzung stellt eine adäquate Antwort des Standorts auf die Herausforderungen der Krebsmedizin dar.
