1981-1989: Biology studies at the Universities of Kaiserslautern and Heidelberg, Germany.

1987-1989: Diploma thesis research in the group of Prof. Wolf-Georg-Forssmann, University of Heidelberg, Germany,on the renal peptide hormone Urodilatin (ANP).

1990: Visiting scientist, Rutgers University Medical School (formerly UMDNJ), NJ, USA, with Prof. Tai Wai Wong. Characterization of the tyrosine kinase Fer.

1990-1994: PhD thesis research, Rockefeller University, New York, NY, USA, with Prof. Hidesaburo Hanafusa. Identification and characterization of the tyrosine kinase c-Abl as interaction partner of Crk adapter proteins (c-Crk, v-Crk).

1994-1995: Postdoc, Rockefeller University, New York, NY, USA with Prof. Hidesaburo Hanafusa. Analysis of Crk interacting proteins.

1995-2001: Independent research group leader, Institute for Medical Radiation and Cell Research (MSZ), University of Würzburg, Germany. Research on signal transduction proteins (Adapters, Kinases, GTPases etc.) and protein complexes in normal cells and tumor cells.

2001-2013: Research group head & lecturer the Sir David Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine (WIMM), University of Oxford, United Kingdom. Research focus: Signal computation and molecular heterogeneity in signal protein complexes and networks of tumor cells. 

Since 2008: Editor-in-Chief of the open access journals CELL COMMUNICATION AND SIGNALING (www.biosignaling.com).

Since 8-2013: Research group head & Professor of Tumor Biology, Institute of Molecular Medicine, ZAMED, Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, Halle (Saale), Germany. Research focus: Signal computation and molecular heterogeneity in signal protein complexes and networks of tumor cells.

From 9-2013: Member of Editors Advisory Group for the London-based open access publisher BioMed Central (www.biomedcentral.com)
