Call for Graduate Students

We are a research group working in the area of tumor research at the University at Halle (Saale). Focus of investigations is on clarification of the mechanisms underlying cellular radiation sensitivity of human tumors (especially radiation resistance by hypoxia), therapeutic interventions against molecular target genes in order to improve radiotherapy of tumors, the trial of new chemotherapeutic substances in combination with radiotherapy, and the identification and characterization of diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic markers in tumors (like glioblastomas, head and neck tumors, bronchial carcinomas and soft tissue sarcomas). Our work was/is funded by several institutions (Deutsche Krebshilfe, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, Sanderstiftung, Wilhelm-Roux program).

Current key aspects and objectives of our work are:

  • Targeting of Carboanhydrase IX (CA IX) in combination with irradiation of human tumor cells
  • Betulinic acid and Betulinyle sulfamate for radiotherapy of hypoxic tumors
  • Expression analyses of hypoxia markers and miRNAs in tumor patients with head and neck tumors before, during und after radiotherapy

For our projects we offer research subjects to graduate students of biology, biochemistry, chemistry (master theses) and human medicine (doctoral theses).
