Vice Dean’s Office for Gender

The Vice Dean’s Office for Gender Issues was set up in 2014 at the Faculty for Medicine in the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) with the aim of working towards reducing the inequalities between the genders in the field of medical research and academic education. It is intended to promote awareness fir gender sensitivity, reveal both open and hidden gender imbalances and to submit suggestions for improving the promotion of equality.

This also complies with the request of the German Council of Science and Humanities for the continuation of the German Research Foundation's (DFG) equality standards. The Vice Dean’s Office for Gender Issues works closely with the Equal Opportunities Officers of the Faculty of Medicine and of the clinic as well as with the MLU’s Family Office.

The Family Office deals with questions and issues concerning the subject “family-friendly University”. Since the MLU was awarded this certificate in 2009 and reaudited in 2012, it has addressed – among others - issues such as working/studying with children and caring for family members. Prof. Dr. phil. Gabriele Meyer and PD Dr. rer. nat. Anne Navarrete-Santos act as the Family Officers for the Faculty of Medicine.
