Research Training Group ProMoAge

The Research Training Group "ProMoAge: Protein Modification: A Key Mechanism for Ageing" (RTG 2155) funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) welcomes applications for 14 PhD positions (salary according to public service salary scale TV-L E13, 65 %) for a three-year structured program starting from July 1, 2019. The RTG is based at the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg and the Friedrich Schiller University Jena in cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for Age Research – Fritz Lipmann Institute, Jena, Germany.

We also offer MD stipends (stipend, approximately 838€/month) for one year.

There is also the possibility to join the GRK as an associated PhD student.

We invite highly motivated and outstanding young scientists to apply.

A group of internationally renowned researchers provides unique opportunities to develop scientific careers in a vibrant scientific environment. The exceptional research idea of ProMoAge is that posttranslational modifications (PTMs) of cellular proteins act as key players in age progression. This challenging and interdisciplinary research field covers the following subtopics:

-          the molecular enzymatic and non-enzymatic mechanisms of PTMs during ageing

-          the modulation of epigenetic and transcriptional processes by PTMs

-          the regulation of ageing-relevant cellular signaling cascades by PTMs

Further information on the 14 open multifaceted research projects and the background of the participating scientists is available at: www.promoage.de / www.medizin.uni-halle.de/promoage.

Requirements
Excellent master degree (or equivalent) in biogerontology, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, biophysics, and related areas.

What we offer
Fascinating and interdisciplinary research projects in the field of molecular and translational age research are accompanied by a
teaching program, including tailored scientific lectures, visiting scientist seminars, lab courses, soft-skill workshops, summer schools, research periods at international cooperation partners, a mentoring program for career development and ongoing coaching of scientific work. The central aim of the educational training is an interdisciplinary and structured education at the highest scientific level. Establishing networks with top international research groups is part of this training.

What we expect
Beyond the passion for and experience in research, we expect the active participation in the gratuate program and the readiness to take the extra step of an interdisciplinary approach towards a PhD. The participation in the teaching program is mandatory.

For application, please submit:

One motivation letter, which states your interests and why you want to become part of the RTG. One curriculum vitae, your degree certificates, an abstract (maximum 3 pages) of your diploma or master thesis, and two letters of recommendation. Applicants with a migratory background and international applications are highly welcome.

Interested candidates should submit their application containing the above mentioned documents in one PDF file to the spokesperson of the RTG, Prof. Dr. Andreas Simm (andreas.simm(at)uk-halle.de)

Deadline for submission of applications for PhD students is: April 15th 2019

MD applications (start in october 2019) are welcome at any time.
